Free NWSA TTT-2 Practice Test
20 questions · instant scoring · explanations cite the standard · Candidate Handbook REV 10/25
The real NWSA Telecommunications Tower Technician 2 exam is 100 questions · 120 minutes. These 20 questions are weighted the same way the handbook weights the exam — planning scope of work & job logistics 18%, fall protection climber-rescuer 28%, hoisting equipment & rigging 24%, structures 18%, appurtenance installation & maintenance 12% — so your score tells you which domain to study, not just whether you would pass. Every explanation names the OSHA, ANSI or ASME source so you can check it yourself.
How to use this test
Answer every question before you check. Treat it like the real thing: closed book, no notes. When you score it you get a breakdown by domain — that is the list of what to study. Open "Show answer and explanation" on anything you missed; the explanation is written to teach the rule, not just confirm the letter.

Under ANSI/ASSP A10.48, adding or removing a 200-lb appurtenance requires which class of rigging plan?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. A10.48 ties the rigging plan class to load and complexity. A 200-lb appurtenance falls in Class II — the same scenario NWSA publishes as a sample question.
A Class IV rigging plan under A10.48 typically requires:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Class IV covers gross loads over 2,000 lb, structural member removal or modification, and non-standard rigging. A qualified person develops the plan with a qualified engineer involved.
A structural member named in the work plan shows significant section loss from corrosion. You should:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. The analysis credited that member with a capacity it no longer has. A crew cannot re-rate a structure in the field.
Which best distinguishes a competent person from a qualified person?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. These are OSHA's definitions. They are different roles and may be different people.
Required fall clearance below an anchorage is the sum of:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. All of it must fit in the space actually available. If it does not, the system is wrong for that position — move the anchor, change the device, or change the method.
The hazard of anchoring well to one side of the work position is:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. The climber swings into the steel at the bottom of the arc, and the arc also consumes clearance that was calculated for a vertical fall.
Suspension trauma after a fall arrest can become life-threatening in:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. Blood pools in the legs of a motionless suspended worker within minutes. Rescue capability must be on site and immediate, not dispatched.
After a suspended climber has been rescued, the correct care is:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Older guidance to hold casualties upright before laying them down has been withdrawn — reviews found no evidence for it and a risk of delaying CPR. Treat a rescued climber as any trauma casualty.
The tower's safety-climb (ladder cable or rail) system may be used as:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. It is a vertical climbing system. Using it as a positioning or general anchor loads it in ways it was not designed or certified for.
Under ASME B30 wire-rope criteria, running rope is removed from service when there are:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. B30.5 / 1926.1413 removal criteria. Kinks, crushing, birdcaging, core protrusion and heat damage are also immediate removal conditions.
A screw-pin shackle should be tightened:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Manufacturers (Crosby) specify hand-tight. A wrench damages threads and adds nothing. Vibration or long-term connections call for a bolt-type shackle.
Tying a knot in a synthetic sling to shorten it:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. B30.9 prohibits shortening or lengthening slings by knotting. A knot is a stress riser and the rating no longer applies at all.
Under A10.48, who is qualified to perform the pre-use inspection of a gin pole?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. The competent rigger inspects the gin pole before use — another of NWSA's published sample questions.
Hoisting operations are typically stopped at a lower wind speed than climbing because:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Common site rules stop hoisting around 15 mph sustained and climbing around 25 mph, but the gin-pole manufacturer's and the lift plan's limits govern.
ANSI/TIA-222 governs:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. TIA-222 is the structural standard for towers and antenna supports. The current edition is Revision I (effective January 1, 2024); many existing towers were designed to Revision G or H.
A Class III structure under TIA-222 serves:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Classification sets the design reliability. Class III carries the highest design loads because the service is essential.
When replacing a load-bearing member during a modification:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. The sequence is the safety control. A member removed without its load path replaced is how towers fold.
Post-event inspections of a tower are required after:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. TIA-222 and owner programs call for inspection after events that could have loaded the structure beyond normal service.
Stainless-to-stainless threaded fasteners on outdoor antenna mounts require anti-seize because:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Galling seizes the fastener mid-tightening, often below the target torque. Anti-seize prevents it.
A drip loop where a cable enters the equipment shelter prevents:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: C. A downward loop just before the entry lets water drip off the low point instead of following the cable through the port.
What the TTT-2 exam actually covers
NWSA publishes the content outline in the Candidate Handbook. For TTT-2 the domains and weightings are: planning scope of work & job logistics 18%, fall protection climber-rescuer 28%, hoisting equipment & rigging 24%, structures 18%, appurtenance installation & maintenance 12%. The exam is 100 questions · 120 minutes, multiple choice, delivered by online remote proctoring with a live proctor. There is no practical exam — that was discontinued in January 2024. The fee is $274, retakes are $274, and NWSA does not publish a passing score. Certification is valid for five years.
If you want the full picture of the exam, the NWSA exam guide covers registration, the zero-tolerance proctoring policy in force since September 2026, and what happens on test day. The TTT-2 study guide page shows exactly what the paid course contains.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions are on the NWSA TTT-2 exam?
The TTT-2 exam is 100 questions · 120 minutes, per the NWSA Candidate Handbook (REV 10/25). It is multiple choice, written only, delivered by online remote proctoring.
Is the NWSA exam computer-based?
Yes. Since January 2024 every NWSA certification exam is delivered by Online Remote Proctoring (ORP) — you take it on your own computer with a live proctor. The practical exam component was discontinued at the same time.
What score do I need to pass the NWSA exam?
NWSA does not publish a passing score. Exams are criterion-referenced and the cut score is set by a panel of subject-matter experts; results are reported as pass/fail with a domain-by-domain breakdown. Any site quoting a specific percentage is guessing.
How much does the NWSA exam cost?
$274 for every NWSA certification — TTT-1, TTT-2, A&L, Foreman and ARC. Retakes are the same $274, with a 30-day wait between attempts. Fees are set by NWSA and can change; nws-a.org is the authority.
Does this free practice test count toward certification?
No. Only NWSA issues certification, and only by passing the official exam at nws-a.org. This test is independent practice material to find weak areas before you pay the exam fee.
Exam facts on this page are from the NWSA Candidate Handbook, CH REV 10/25. Fees, formats and rules change — the handbook is the authority. NWSA Study Guide is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or recognized by the National Wireless Safety Alliance.
