TTT-2 Structures Practice Test
10 questions · 18% of the real TTT-2 exam · instant scoring · explanations cite the standard
Structures is 18% of TTT-2 and it is about modification work: engineered sequence, what you may and may not loosen, structure classes, guy tension, base and flange inspection, and TIA-322 for construction loads. Ten questions with explanations.

A tower modification (reinforcement, member replacement) proceeds only with:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Modifications change the load path. The sequence — what comes out, what goes in first, what braces the gap — is the safety control, and it is engineered.
During member replacement, bolts in adjacent connections are:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Loosening adjacent connections releases load paths the engineer assumed were intact. Follow the drawing's sequence exactly.
TIA-222 structure classes (I, II, III) reflect:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Higher class, higher design loads. A Class III structure carries emergency-services traffic and is designed to stay up when others might not.
Guy-wire tension on a guyed tower is:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Initial tension affects the tower's stiffness and the load in every member. It is measured and documented, not estimated.
Anchor bolts at a tower base are inspected for:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. The base connection carries the whole structure's moment. Grout loss or a missing nut is a stop-and-report finding.
A post-event (storm, lightning, ice) inspection should be performed:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Design loads are probabilistic; an event near the design load can leave damage. Routine climbs wait for the look.
Adding a new mount with four panel antennas and six RRUs to an existing tower requires:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Projected area drives wind load. A sector upgrade can push a tower past capacity; the analysis says whether reinforcement is needed first.
Section loss from corrosion on a diagonal brace means:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Diagonals carry shear and torsion. Reduced section means reduced capacity, and only an engineer can re-rate it.
Monopole flange joints are inspected for:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Flange bolts see cyclic load in wind; loosening and corrosion both reduce the joint's moment capacity.
Temporary loads from construction (gin pole reactions, hoist anchors, rigging) on the structure are governed by:
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. TIA-322 is the loading standard for construction and maintenance on communication structures — the companion to TIA-222.

Frequently asked questions
How much of the NWSA TTT-2 exam is structures?
18%, per the Candidate Handbook REV 10/25 content outline. The full TTT-2 exam is 100 questions · 120 minutes.
Is the NWSA exam computer-based?
Yes. Since January 2024 every NWSA certification exam is delivered by Online Remote Proctoring (ORP) — you take it on your own computer with a live proctor. The practical exam component was discontinued at the same time.
What score do I need to pass the NWSA exam?
NWSA does not publish a passing score. Exams are criterion-referenced and the cut score is set by a panel of subject-matter experts; results are reported as pass/fail with a domain-by-domain breakdown. Any site quoting a specific percentage is guessing.
How much does the NWSA exam cost?
$274 for every NWSA certification — TTT-1, TTT-2, A&L, Foreman and ARC. Retakes are the same $274, with a 30-day wait between attempts. Fees are set by NWSA and can change; nws-a.org is the authority.
Exam facts on this page are from the NWSA Candidate Handbook, CH REV 10/25. Fees, formats and rules change — the handbook is the authority. NWSA Study Guide is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or recognized by the National Wireless Safety Alliance.
