NWSA TTT-2 Study Guide
TTT-2 is the same five domains as TTT-1 with the weight shifted onto rigging and planning — and 100 questions instead of 85. This guide is built to those weights, with the rigging-plan material that separates a TTT-2 pass from a near miss.

What is on the TTT-2 written exam
From the NWSA Candidate Handbook (CH REV 10/25): 100 questions, 2 hours, online remote proctoring, $274 per sitting. Prerequisite: An active TTT-1 certification. NWSA sets the passing score through a standard-setting process and does not publish it.
| Domain | Share of exam |
|---|---|
| Planning the scope of work and job logistics | ~18% |
| Fall protection, climbing and rescue | ~28% |
| Hoisting equipment and rigging | ~24% |
| Structures | ~18% |
| Appurtenance installation and maintenance | ~12% |
Rigging goes from 20% of the exam at TTT-1 to 24% here, and planning from 15% to 18% — together nearly half the paper. The guide spends its time the same way: a full module on hoisting equipment and rigging with Class II–IV rigging plans, one on planning and job logistics, one on special operations, then the fall-protection and rescue module at TTT-2 depth.
How TTT-2 differs from TTT-1
Same five NWSA domains, a different seat. TTT-1 checks that you can do the work safely under direction. TTT-2 checks that you can plan it, check it and supervise it — including the TTT-1 technicians and trainees on your crew.
| Domain | TTT-1 | TTT-2 | What changes at TTT-2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall protection, climbing and rescue | 30% | 28% | From your own gear to the crew’s gear, fall clearance and the rescue plan |
| Hoisting equipment and rigging | 20% | 24% | From recognizing the plan classes to applying them: gross load, sling and block loads, inspections |
| Planning the scope of work and job logistics | 15% | 18% | From following the plan to building it |
| Structures | 15% | 18% | From naming the parts to knowing the design limits |
| Appurtenance installation and maintenance | 20% | 12% | From doing the install to checking it |
Each of the six topic modules in the TTT-2 course opens with a short box on what changes from TTT-1, and the rigging and rescue modules end with level-2 practice: worked rigging math and a rescue plan to pick apart.

What is in the guide
- 8 modules, 23 lessons — sized to each domain’s share of the exam, written by tower technicians in plain language and cited to the standards the questions are drawn from: TTT-2 strategy; Hoisting equipment & rigging (24%); Structures (18%); Special operations; Appurtenance install (12%); Planning & job logistics (18%); Fall protection & rescue (28%); Final exam prep.
- Module quizzes after every module, with an explanation for every wrong answer — not just the right one.
- 95 flashcards — the definitions, numbers and thresholds the exam actually asks for, in a format that works on a phone.
- 90-question timed practice exam covering every domain of the real exam, so a score here tells you something about a score there.
- Weak-area report that names the domain to go back to, and a completion record you can show an employer (a training milestone — not a credential).
- 342-question exam bank — enough for three full NWSA-length real exams without seeing a question twice; the draw serves the questions you have not answered first, and every answer is explained.
- Real exam mode — NWSA’s 100 questions in 120 minutes, no feedback until you submit, with flag-for-review, a question map and a review screen. Every miss is explained at the end.
- Readiness by domain — every answer feeds a gauge weighted to the handbook domain percentages, and the dashboard names the domain to drill next.
- Mistake bank and spaced flashcards — missed questions come back on a schedule until you have them down; flashcards you know move further out, and the ones you don’t come back the same day.
- Install it like an app — add the course to your phone’s home screen (no app store); it keeps working without signal once opened, and your progress follows your key to any device.
- Search and print — search every lesson, flashcard and practice question in your language, and print the flashcards or your own mistake list for the truck or the night before the exam.
- English, Spanish and Russian — every lesson, quiz and flashcard.
Who it is for
Technicians who hold an active TTT-1 and are moving up to lead-capable work, and anyone whose employer requires TTT-2 for carrier or tower-owner site access. TTT-2 is also the prerequisite for A&L, ARC and Foreman, so it is the gate to every specialty.
How it works
- Pay by card at checkout. Your licence key appears on screen and in your email immediately.
- Open the course, enter the key and your email once. Access runs 60 days from that moment, on any device.
- Work the modules in order, drill the flashcards, then sit the timed practice exam. Book the real exam with NWSA when the weak-area report comes back clean.
Sample TTT-2 exam questions
Three questions from the guide's own bank, worked the way every question in the guide is — the answer, then the reason. The guide's timed practice exam and weak-area report tell you which domain to go back to.
1. Before a gin pole goes into service on a job, who inspects it?
- First Aid certified worker
- Any tower technician
- Competent Rigger
- Site Manager
Answer: C. Per ANSI/ASSP A10.48, the Competent Rigger is qualified to perform pre-job gin pole inspections.
2. Your crew is adding a 350 lb appurtenance to the structure. Which rigging plan class applies?
- Class II
- Class III
- Class IV
- Class I
Answer: A. Per ANSI/ASSP A10.48, a 350 lb appurtenance addition/removal requires a Class II rigging plan.
3. What is the standard safety factor for rigging hardware?
- 5:1
- 10:1
- 3:1
- 20:1
Answer: A. Most rigging hardware uses a 5:1 safety factor. The Working Load Limit (WLL) is 1/5 of breaking strength.

Questions people ask
Is this the official NWSA TTT-2 exam or study material?
No. NWSA Study Guide is an independent preparation course built from the domains and weightings NWSA publishes in its Candidate Handbook. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NWSA, and finishing it does not grant a credential — you still register for and pass the official TTT-2 exam through NWSA’s remote proctoring.
How many questions are on the NWSA TTT-2 exam and how long is it?
100 multiple-choice questions in 2 hours, delivered by online remote proctoring. The fee is $274 per sitting, including retests (Candidate Handbook, REV 10/25).
What do I get for the price?
8 modules (23 lessons) covering every domain above, module quizzes, 95 flashcards, a 90-question timed practice exam, a weak-area report and a completion record. Plus real exam mode — NWSA’s 100 questions in 120 minutes, no feedback until you submit — and enough questions for three full real exams without seeing a question twice. 60-day access from the day you activate, on any device. English, Spanish and Russian — every lesson, quiz, flashcard and exam question.
